Soluble Fiber Guide

How many grams of soluble fiber are used in cholesterol claims?

Reviewed September 15, 2026

Direct answer: For the FDA-authorized coronary heart disease claim, the daily dietary intake level is 7 grams or more of soluble fiber from psyllium seed husk, eaten as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol. That is a labeling threshold, not a personal treatment prescription.

Read the claim precisely

The FDA authorization concerns soluble fiber from specified eligible sources and a broader diet pattern. It does not mean every product labeled “soluble fiber” qualifies, or that fiber replaces prescribed cholesterol treatment.

Check grams per serving

Look at the labeled soluble fiber amount and how many servings the product uses for its claim. Do not assume the scoop weight equals soluble fiber grams; flavoring and other ingredients may be included.

Safety still applies

Psyllium needs adequate liquid. Ask a clinician how fiber fits with your lipid goals, medicines, and overall diet.
